BUMAN (THE GENERAL)
A JOURNEY WITH NO MANUALS, JUST HEART AND RHYTHM
Born in Madagh, Morocco, and raised in Bilbao, Spain, Buman The General is a multicultural Singer/Songwriter who has blended his diverse roots into a unique musical career.
Music has always been Buman’s passion. One of his earliest memories is learning how to use a pen to rewind cassette tapes to listen over and over again to the same track. Exposure to the unique blended genre of Moroccan pop as a child, gave Buman an appreciation for American music and he dreamed of one day moving to the United States.
But when he was just eight years old, life threw Buman a curveball. His family suddenly moved to Bilbao, Spain. Initially, he thought he and his family were only there visiting his grandfather. Suddenly, he found himself in a new country, with no friends, no family, and no local language skills, permanently.
Filled with longing to return to Morocco, the only friend Buman had that soothed his broken heart, was Music. Music was his constant companion as he adapted to life in Spain. Over time, he grew to love Spanish rap and vibing to artists like Toteking and Nach, Nikone, Hard GZ, and Fernando Costa.
The arrival of “Gasolina” by Daddy Yankee however, was a game-changer for Buman’s music taste. Buman found himself defending Reggaeton against the disdain coming from the rap community, and further deepening and widening Buman’s music palette. Buman couldn’t resist the infectious beats of Reggaeton, embracing the genre alongside Trap, Flamenco, EDM, and even Classical music.
His playlists became a wild hybrid mix that few could understand. Buman once said of his early days in music, “People didn’t know whether to cry, dance, or jump when they listened to my playlists.”
Without any formal musical training or instrument knowledge, Buman officially began his musical journey at 17 when he wrote his first original song, "Audio 23" simply named after the default name his phone operating system gave to the audio file.
With no formal education in music, Buman The General admits that everything he creates comes from within, driven by passion and instinct rather than classical formal music training or structure. Buman believes this spontaneous, organic approach to music, untethered from the constraints of the past, is what makes seeing, and hearing a Buman the General show perhaps one of the most unique things a person can experience.
A massive turning point for Buman’s career came with his first Reggaeton track, "Putivuelta." Within the first month, the song had a million streams on Spotify, and half a million on YouTube.
Seemingly overnight, people were suddenly stopping him walking down the street asking for photos and local artists in Spain were reaching out to his friends asking how to get in contact with Buman for collaborations on new music. This was the moment Buman realized he had an opportunity within his own mind, to convert a fun hobby into a dedicated career in music. This was the moment Buman decided he was truly living and breathing to create music and decided to put all of his time, heart, energy into every beat.
Blending his cultural experiences into each track, Buman The General launches his attack with a powerful fusion of Edm, Hip Hop, Reggaeton and Trap. Buman The General now recruits loyal soldiers from audiences in over 120 countries. Despite his rapid rise, Buman The General stands by the value of his self-taught approach.
As he takes his music to audiences around the globe, Buman The General remains grounded by a guiding principle that, “Music isn’t learned, it’s felt.”
That’s what Buman does: he feels the full range of human emotions, and he invites you to do the same. He lives to share his emotions and his feelings with his audiences, and loves when he reciprocally feels the same from his audiences.
